find old friends,Irradiated Food is not Raw Food

Your choices for Raw Food are about to be eliminated as the FDA takes the first steps to irradiate all produce in the US see the reprint of an article from NaturalNews...

Reprinted from NaturalNews
http://www.naturalnews.com/

(NaturalNews) The FDA has announced that beginning today, spinach and lettuce sold across the United States may now be secretly irradiated before it reaches grocery store shelves. What's "secret" about it? The FDA previously decided that irradiation warning stickers would not be required on any food items because it would be "too confusing to consumers." (The word IRRADIATION apparently has too many letters to be understood to food buyers.) Thus, irradiated foods will not be labeled as such, and consumers are going to be left in the dark about all this (except for those who actually eat the irradiated food, in which case they will glow in the dark).

The FDA, of course, insists that the levels of irradiation used to kill e.coli will have no effect whatsoever on the nutritional value of the food. This astonishing statement comes from an agency that doesn't believe food has any nutritional value in the first place, so lowering the value to zero by destroying all the phytonutrients does not, in the opinion of the FDA, alter its nutritional value at all. Thus, destroying all the anti-cancer nutrients in a head of broccoli merely brings that broccoli into "compliance" as a non-functional food, according to the FDA.

Radiation, of course, destroys delicate phytochemicals in plants -- the very phytochemicals protecting consumers against cancer, heart disease, high cholesterol, inflammation and other diseases. Microwaving broccoli, for example, destroys up to 98% of its anti-cancer nutrients. (The FDA has not yet acknowledged this scientific fact, either.) In a similar way, irradiating food destroys much of its nutritional content, including vitamins, carotenoids, anthocyanins and other delicate protective nutrients that are right now providing the last, desperate nutritional defense against the American diet of meat, milk, fried foods and processed junk.

Irradiating fresh produce will leave the U.S. population is a state of extreme deficiency in protective plant-based nutrients.

Does the FDA plan to destroy the health of the U.S. population?
Many people suspect that's what the FDA really wants. A nutritionally-deficient, disease-ridden population would mean a windfall of profits for the FDA's buddies in Big Pharma -- the folks who sell patented medications at monopoly prices. With the food supply destroyed by radiation, ordinary people would have virtually no remaining sources of protective phytonutrients!

In promoting this food radiation policy, the FDA has accomplished what all the terrorists in the world could not: The mass irradiation of the U.S. food supply -- much like setting off a dirty bomb over the nation's farms (but with less radiation). This destruction of the nutritional value of the food supply is a far greater threat to the health of the U.S. population than any terrorist event, including 9/11. And yet it is being done by our own people, TO our own people, by a lawless agency that answers to no one. FDA officials are not voted into office by the People; they are appointed by politicians. They answer to no one, they refuse to follow federal law, and they operate as tyrants over a quarter of the U.S. economy.

And now they have taken it upon themselves to destroy the national food supply.

We should be more than just alarmed -- we should be outraged! The FDA has committed an act of war against the People. With this decision, the FDA has firmly positioned itself as an enemy of the People, and a bringer of death and disease to the nation. Why are our elected representatives in Washington allowing this madness?

Think about this: If the FDA has its way:

• All your food will be irradiated, pasteurized or killed
• All your children will be vaccinated
• All your medicine will be based on pharmaceuticals
• All your free speech about health will be suppressed
• All informative labeling on food and supplements will be outlawed
• Growing and selling non-irradiated garden vegetables will become a crime!

Today it's spinach and lettuce; tomorrow it's all fresh produce
Don't think the FDA will stop with spinach and lettuce, either. They're already talking about irradiating tomatoes, peppers and onions. Before long, radiation could become mandatory for ALL fresh produce, and all the fresh fruits and vegetables that are supposed to contain health-protecting nutrients will be transformed into sterile, inert plant mass with no health benefits at all. (Brilliant scam, huh?)

This is by design. I believe the FDA wants the American public to be sickened and diseased. Why else would they ban Free Speech about healing foods like cherries, broccoli and garlic? Why would they outlaw the selling of herbs and nutritional supplements that claim to treat and prevent disease? The FDA wants you to be sick, enslaved and medicated, and irradiating the food supply is the quickest way to accomplish that.

He who controls the food controls the People.

He who destroys the food can profit from the People's sickness.

The FDA's crimes against humanity
In pushing this radiation agenda, the FDA is committing a crime against humanity -- a nutritional atrocity that violates fundamental human rights. And yet the FDA's top decision makers continue to operate with zero oversight and zero accountability. They make decisions in a corporate-sponsored vacuum, absent any input from reasonable, health-conscious consumers or scientists. And because they have been granted tyrannical powers by Congress, the FDA operates above the law.

It is not subject to any laws whatsoever; not even the U.S. Constitution which is supposed to protect the People's right to "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" (as stated in the Declaration of Independence).

The mass irradiation of the food supply is a violation of the "Life" part of that phrase, wouldn't you agree? If we can no longer buy nourishing foods with their nutrients intact, then we are all doomed to degenerative disease and death... but not before paying out our life savings to doctors, drug companies and hospitals. That's the evil genius of the food irradiation plot: It kills you slowly, at just the right pace to drain your bank account before you expire from malnutrition.

I truly believe this irradiation of the food supply is the beginning of the end of America. No nation can survive the destruction of its food supply. The FDA is dooming America to a slow, painful, medicated death. In a generation, this nation will be lost, destroyed from within by short-sighted tyrants who violated nature and left the People to rot.

What you can do right now to fight this latest transgression by the FDA
For starters, you can:

1) Grow your own food. A little gardening is good. Grow whatever you can, even if it's just a few kitchen herbs.

2) Buy your food at farmer's markets, coops and CSAs. See http://www.localharvest.org/csa

3) Ask your grocery store if they are buying irradiated spinach. If they don't know, demand they find out!

4) Raise hell with your Senators and Congresspeople, demanding they pass new laws protecting consumers from the FDA and its plot to destroy the nutritional value of the food supply.

Also, listen to two podcasts I've posted on this topic. The first was recorded several months ago, where I publicly predicted the FDA would do exactly what we're seeing right now. Listen to that podcast here: http://www.naturalnews.com/Index-Podcas...

The second podcast was just posted today. I recorded it right before writing this article. It goes into much greater detail about the FDA's plot to destroy the health of the U.S. population. You can listen to that here: http://www.naturalnews.com/Index-Podcas...

Finally, don't stand for this food supply madness! Raise your voice. Write your local paper, call your representatives in Washington and tell them you strongly oppose the irradiation of the food supply. Teach people about phytonutrients. And stay tuned to NaturalNews as we continue to cover this important story.

The FDA has gone mad. Criminally mad. It is an agency that will literally kill you if given the chance, and it is up to all of us to stop this madness before we lose our health, our children and our very nation.

find old friends,Raw Food Energy Bar That Tastes Good and is Good For You.

Energy Bars that taste good and are good for you. What a concept!

When you consider the junk food Energy Bars at your local health food store known as "Health Bars" reading the label of the Raw Revolution Organic Live Food Bars is a pleasure in itself.

The Bars are Gluten Free • Vegan • Wheat, Corn, Soy, Trans-fat, Cholestorol and Refined Sugar Free

Plenty of variety Tropical Mango Choc Chip Cookie Dough Raspberry & Chocolate Spirulina & Cashew Coconut & Agave Nectar Chocolate & Cashew Cashew & Agave Nectar Chocolate & Coconut Hazelnut & Chocolate Raisin & Chocolate

So far I've tried Raspberry & Chocolate, Chocolate & Cashew, Hazelnut & Chocolate, and Raisin & Chocolate...and I really was prepared to dislike them. However they were very good and I look forward to trying the other flavor blends

Expensive? Not for this quality of ingredients and preparation! Amazon has some good deals going on these bars. See end of article.

A typical ingredient label of the bars might look like this one which is my favorite so far

Hazelnut & Chocolate:
2.2 oz USDA Certified Organic Raw Revolution Organic Live Food Bar - Hazelnut & Chocolate. Kosher & Organic Certification by Natural Food Certifiers,...
Agave Nector, Cashew, Dates, Hazelnut, Almond, Sprouted Flax, Cocao Powder Processed with Alkali.

In short there is nothing in these bars that a "Raw Foodist" could not enjoy.

From Raw Revolution web site....

"As a registered nurse and natural foods chef, Raw Indulgence founder Alice Benedetto had developed a passion for preparing and eating raw foods. So when the raw snacks she made as an alternative to high sugar processed snacks for her high school son became so popular among his friends, she started selling them. Raw, living foods are cleaner and have higher nutrient content than cooked food. Processed foods such as protein isolates and grain-based fillers are acidic and cause fermentation in the body. Raw Organic foods are closest to their natural state, bringing us closer to healing ourselves and the global ecology. Raw Indulgence products, including Raw Revolution bars, are gluten free, vegan, free of wheat, corn, soy, trans-fats, cholesterol and refined sugar."

Considering the ingredients and the pleasant taste I consider this the best "Health Bar" I have ever tried.

A Top rating from Raw Food Wisdom!

Song: Ani Defranco - Wishing
and Hoping

CLIP01

Michael: Hey, beautiful, it's
so great to hear your voice. I miss you. I've been calling you for
over a month, you know...

Julianne: Well, I've been on a book tour.

Michael: I figured youwere out of town.

Julianne: No, I meanmy machine eats all my messages.

Michael: Or you're just averaging 30 days to return a call.

Julianne: It's less when it's you.

Michael: Look, I have to ask you something. Something incredibly
important, that if you turn me down, I don't know what I'll
d...

Julianne: You know, if I could just tell you one thing first. Well,
this is, this is probably going tohand you the biggest laugh of
your adult life. I'm sure. But I'm thinking about you, and I was
remembering this unbelievably insane night we spent in Tucson,
like, I don't know, a thousand years ago? And you probably won't
remember this. But...

Michael: Are you kidding? I think about that night all the
time.

Julianne: You do?

Michael: But it's not why I called

Julianne: It's not?

Michael: I called because I met someone.

Julianne: Well, that's great. That's great. Because you haven't
really seen anybody, have you? SincedingbatJenny Lee.

Michael: You don't understand. I've never felt this way about
anybody! And she's all wrong for me!

Julianne: There is a good start.

Michael: No, no. I mean she's a junior at the University of
Chicago, she's 20. Her name's Kim. Jules. you're gonna love her.
She' s beautiful. And her dad is this billionaire and he owns the
White Sox and some cable empire. You know I've always been
uncomfortable around rich people.

Julianne: Sure.

Michael: But they're not like that, they're such wonderful
people... really,salt of the earth.

Julianne: So. You've met her parents.

Michael: Yeah. Jules, we're getting married this Sunday. Hello.
Hello.

Julianne: Michael, it's Wednesday night, how can you possibly be
getting married on Sunday?

Michael: Actually, it all starts tomorrow. It's one of these
four-day-weddings with all the traditional events, and like ten
million people flying in from all over the world.

Julianne: Okay. Okay. But are you working this weekend? I mean, is
that responsible?

Michael: Well, the Sox are at home and Sports is letting me do a
profile on the Big Hurt. You know. Frank Thomas... wait. What do
you mean irresponsible? Taking off a weekend to get married? Jules.
I'm scared.

Julianne: Maybe we should talk about this.

Michael: I need you. If you can't come and hold my hand, I'll never
get through this. Please come, please.

Julianne: Well.

Michael: Oh, man, I can't wait for you to meet her.

1. be out of town

这个短语如果直译的话,应为“出城”,但是总觉得有些牵强。那么正确的用法如何呢?通常情况下,当我们提到be out of town
的时候指的是“出差”,和be on business 的意思差不多。E.g. Where is your father? Well,
he's out of town.

2. My machine eats all my messages.

The machine eats my card.

3. Hand you the biggest laugh of your adult life.

Perhaps it's gonna hand you the biggest laugh of your adult
life.

4. dingbat

这是个专门用来形容女孩子的贬义词,指的是女孩子空有外表,但是实际上很傻、很没脑子。

5. salt of the earth

很有用的俚语。盐在古代就被看得很贵重,被认为是尊贵的象征。The salt of the
earth出自《新约?马太福音》:耶稣对他的门徒说:“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the
salt have lost its savor, wherewith shall it be salted?
”(你们是世上的盐,盐若失了味,如何才能再咸呢?)这里的意思就是“中坚力量,精英,高尚的人”。

6. Do a profile on somebody

通常情况下,我们所熟知的profile是“侧面”的意思,但是在这里他的意思却是人物的短篇采访,或者短篇人物访谈。而do a
profile on sb. 指的就是做某个人的访谈。

CLIP02

在这个片段里,大家可以看出来,当这对即将结婚的小两口吵架的时候,Julianne
似笑非笑地坐在一旁,似乎有点掩饰不住自己内心的喜悦,因为她好像看到Michael--自己曾经的男友,现在的好友--很快就会回到她的身边,马上就要成功拆散这对相爱的人,从此
live happily ever after。但 Julianne 万万没想到的是,Kimmy 居然可以爱到放弃自尊,哭着求
Michael 来原谅自己。这可是整部电影当中的经典之处,也是为什么这部电影会在美国如此大红大紫的原因之一。

Michael: Wow. You look beautiful.

Julianne: Thank you.

Michael: You have a date later or something?

Julianne:Never can tell.Hi.

Michael: "Just the way you look tonight." Remember? Okay,
kid.You're up.

Kimmy: Well, it's really my father who needs the favor. You see.
He's... reorganizing some of the divisions of the company. Public
relations is a real problem area for him. It would only be, six
months? Maybe. Or three or four?

Michael: (to Julianne) And you knew about this.

Julianne: I think you ought to listen to her, Michael. It's her
life, too.

Michael: Well, you gonna tell me that Walterthought this one up?
Why don't you start by being honest for one second, Kim?

Kimmy: I am being honest. All of a sudden, I'm supposed todrop out
of school, forget my family, forget my career, forget about all the
things I had planned for my life.

Michael: Well forgive me for screwing up your plans! I'm sure glad
I'm hearing all this now, before it's too late!

Kimmy: What is that sup...

Michael: And what am I supposed to do with my life, huh? I work in
alow-paying, zero-respect job. Which, unfortunately, I happen to
love.

Julianne: Michael, it sounds like a great opportunity.

Michael: Does it, really? How come you never took somesellout
establishment job? Huh? I'll tell you why. Because that isn't you.
And guess what? Kim. That's not me, either.

Kimmy: Okay, if that's the way you feel...

Michael: Damn straight that's how I feel! Just come out and say it,
my job is not good enough! I am not good enough!

Kimmy: Michael, I never said that.

Michael: Yes, you did. Great, Kim, you wait till two days before
our wedding to drop this on me, and I'm just supposed toroll over
and drool!

Kimmy: No.

Michael: All right. I am an asshole. I am an insensitive sexist
asshole. you'd better...

Kimmy: No, Michael! No, Michael! You are so... so right. And I am
so wrong. We've settled this. And I reneged. That wasn't fair. You
have to forgive me, and forget this ever happened... Okay? Or I'll
die. Please!

Michael: I am sorry, I am sorry... I'm so... I love you.

1. Never can tell.

“谁都没法说,你永远都不会知道”。其实像这种表达方式。我们已经学过好多,比如:you never know,God
knows,nobody knows等等。

2. You're up.

You're up. 在这里意思是“go ahead”,“go for it”,用汉语讲就是“你说吧”。

3. Thought this one up

其实这个短语中有thought
就够用了,但是说话者偏偏在后面加一个up,意为加重语气,与此同时,来强调一下“编造”的事实。仔细回想一下,我们曾讲过 You made
this up. (你自己编的吧。)不难看出,此句后面结尾的部分同样也是up,代表编造的意思。

4. Drop out of school

“辍学”的意思。举个例子:每年都有很多孩子因为交不起学费而辍学。 Each year many kids drop out of
school because they can't pay the fee.

5. low-paying, zero-respect job

6. roll over and drool

这里Michael的意思是:你希望我像只狗那样打滚讨好你、垂涎这份工作吗?非常严厉的话语,难怪 Kimmy
哭了起来并大声辩驳。

Song: The Way You Look Tonight
- Tony Bennett

CLIP03

Julianne: Hello, George.

George: Hey, gorgeous. Having a good time?

Julianne: Not particularly, butI did what I came to do.

George: What? You split them up?

Julianne: No, I said good-bye.

George: Good girl. I'm proud of you. I'd be prouder still if you
were dancing.

Julianne: Hmm, I have a big plan for dancing. Just give me 30, 35
years.

George: Mmm. The misery, the exquisite tragedy. The Susan Hayward
of it all. I can just picture you there sitting alone at your table
in your lavender gown.

Julianne: Did I tell you my gown was lavender?

George: Hair swept up. Haven't touched your cake. Probablydrumming
your fingernails on the white linen tablecloth. The way you do when
you're really feeling down. Perhaps even looking at those nails,
thinking. "God. I should've stopped in all my evil plotting to have
that manicure." But it's too late now.

Julianne: George, I didn't tell you my dress was lavender.

George: Suddenly a familiar song. Then you're off you chair in one
exquisite movement.Wondering, searching, sniffing the wind like a
dapple deer.Has God heard your little prayer? Will Cinderella dance
again? And then suddenly the crowds part. And there he is,sleek,
stylish. R-r-radiant with charisma.Bizarrely, he's on the
telephone. But then, so are you. And he comes towards you. The
moves of the jungle cat. And although you quite correctly sense
that he is... gay. Like most devastatingly handsome single men of
his age are. You think. "What the hell... life goes on." Maybe
there won't be marriage. Maybe there won't be sex. But, by God.
There'll be dancing.

George: Bond. Jane Bond.

1. I did what I came to do.

这里它的意思和I did what I'm supposed to do. 一样。但是在不同的场合,两句话的解释可能就不一样了。因为I
did what I came to do还有一层意思是"我做了我要做的事"。

2. Drumming your fingernails on the white linen tablecloth.

有些人在无聊的时候或者想事情的时候,会有一个习惯性的动作:用手指轻轻的敲击桌子,发出像鼓点一样的声音。那么这个动作应该怎么讲呢?就是drum。

3. Wondering, searching, sniffing the wind like a dapple
deer.

说的非常漂亮的一句话,强烈推荐给大家。什么时候用呢!当要表达一个人虽然懵懵懂懂,虽然有着很多困惑,但是还是没有放弃、努力寻找答案,就好像是一只小鹿一样。

4. Will Cinderella dance again?

“灰姑娘还会再跳舞吗?”灰姑娘在这里指的是可爱又漂亮、但却遭遇困境的女孩。而 Will the Cinderella dance
again? 意思就是“这个伤心的姑娘还会开心起来吗?”

5. Sleek, stylish, radiant with charisma.

很多时候,我们学到的听到的都是怎样去形容女性,比如:迷人(enchanting),光芒四射(dazzling),可爱(adorable)等等。这一次我们就来学学形容男士的词儿。He
is sleek (朴实却不失优雅), stylish (有品味), radiant (光芒四射) with charisma
(领袖气质/王者风范)。像这样的男人实在是太少见了。不知大家有没有看过周润发主演的"赌王"系列。每次开赌之时,发哥出场的形象和气质足可以用上面的这些词来形容了。

SONG What The World Needs Now Is Love - Jackie DeShannon

liberty university,A tribute to all the heroines in the IT industry

It's tough being a woman in the IT industry.

First, you are faced with a whole bunch of detractors.

They range from your colleagues, your employers, your prospective employers, your classmates in University last time, your friends (or acquaintances) , etc.
And most of them are MEN.

What kind of criticism are we faced with?

They range from the mild/ brutually honest passing remarks to the snide spiteful plain discriminating actions.

Like for example:

a very experienced male colleague of mine told me very sincerely that i was in the wrong field. Simply because of the genetic makeup of being a Female. Apparently it has been scientifically proved that men are more suitable in the IT Field because they are able to use logical thinking better whereas women tend to rely on intuition and depend on emotion. Well, yes it may be true, but how do u expect me to react? I am stuck where i am so i can only smile at him meekly and nod in agreement and continue to do my work. I respect this colleague of mine dearly because he is always sharing his wisdom and i know he only means well. Still, the truth hurts, that i can't do my job as well as men just because of my genetic makeup. It makes me wonder how many ppl out there still have this notion and how it may affect a woman climbing up the corporate ladder in the IT world.

I still remember an even more hurtful comment that i received, from another MALE colleague of mine. Let's call his Mr D ( D for disgusting because i really detest him yet i have to pretend to be civil to him at work). Mr D once told me very truthfully and honestly that he thinks I should just concentrate on doing administrative work. and he had the cheek to tell me that he thinks i am GREAT at doing administrative work and so i should continue doing it and even do his share of it so that he can concentrate on resolving the tougher issues. To him, work in the IT industry should be split between the administrative (filling up of forms, going through beaucratic processes like change management systems, and producing reports) and the technical (resolving issues, doing the hands on work and doing the changes). And of 'cos those who are better at the technical side of things (of course he means himself) should just concentrate on the technical work. PUI. Like who genuninely enjoys doing admin work. I didnt study hard for 4 long years in university, burning time doing programming work and studying abt microprocessors to do admin work. I want to have my fair share of the more exciting hands on work too ok, MR D. i am fed up with having to work with u and have you always stealing the technical work and leaving the admin work for me to clean up. One day i will stop doing the admin work for u and see how u can survive with all the bloody forms that you have to fill. May the piles of paper work drown you while i enjoy and kick of technical work for once.

Ok sorry maybe i digressed (got too emotional when i thought of mr d).

But Mr D is another typical IT guy in the industry who thinks that he is oh- so- good in technical work and that girls should just focus on the admin work. It's hard to survive as a girl, you have to put down ur dignity, put down ur respect and ask a person like Mr D when you want to pick up technical skills. Endure his "oh i am so almighty good in technical skills" behaviour and pretend that you like him (PUI) and pick up the skills from him. Its even tougher when you have to fight for him for jobs to do and when you have to work with him on a project you know that you will just end up with the less meaty task and probably all the administrative work.

See what we girls have to endure with?

Even in University last time i remember how we were discriminated.

During projects formation it was tough to get guys to join our team and we usually ended up as an all girls team.

Unlike the biz faculty, where the guys would probably be queuing up to join the all girls team.

Its tough in Computer Engineering.

I have to admit that its probably true that guys have an advantage over girls in IT due to their genetic makeup. Somehow they are able to grasp programming concepts better and perform better at the technical projects. Girls have to work doubly hard, and even after working doubly hard, they might not be able to grasp the concepts as well as boys.
I know of many females in the IT industry who don't know why they were there and why they are still there. Like myself. Frankly speaking, i don't know why i chose computer engineering (maybe just because i didn't want to go accountancy where the rest of the female cohort was), and i don't know why i ended up in the IT field and am still here (can't find a new job la).
Many of my friends are in the same boat as me, try asking all my computer engineering female friends why they chose CPE. Some will say don't know, some will say my dad asked me to (hey, come to think of it, my dad did ask me to choose cpe). At the end of the day, everyone survived.Congrats to all my female friends! No matter what class of honors we ended with, i believe that we all deserve to be first class because we did work really hard. :)

Everyone says that CPE girls are plain and ugly while the BIZ/ ART girls are glam and pretty. Well, i will tell u why. Not to defend ourselves, but i gather that its because:
1. We spend more time facing the machine than facing humans- and as a result, reduced incentive to look pretty
2. We have to work harder that females in biz/art. Come on, who can deny that. Engineering girls have the toughest timetables and workloads and we have the toughest competition as well. Throw in the fact that we are genetically deficient (E.g: Guys are better than girls in IT because of their genetic makeup)
3. No incentive to makeup and look pretty when the guys in engineering are not good looking and well dressed as well. Frankly speaking, do you want to wear a dress or short skirt to a lecture theatre full of boys in t shirts, berms/ shorts? Not to mention that the percentage of being exposed is super high and they will probably leer at u.
After graduating from university, what do you get?
You are faced with lousy interviewers who look down on you and ask tough IT questions.
(when you are looking for a job in the IT industry of course)
I note that these ppl tend to be MALE, ABOVE 30 years old and are really mean.

Have u ever sat in front of a panel of interviewers (all male and above 30 years old), who look at u in the most demeaning and condescending way ever, asking tough technical questions? And when you cant answer the question they will laugh and say mean words. I have even been questioned about my FYP in front of these MEAN MEN, saying that it is not feasible. (IF MY FYP IS NOT FEASIBLE, MR MEAN, then why did my PROFESSOR give me an A for my FYP and how did i even show him a DEMO?)

I tell you, these boys are really mean. They will pretend to say that they do not discriminate girls and that they will hire from all gender. But in the end, deep down in their hearts you know that they look down on u because of ur genetic makeup and because u dont possess that much of a technical knowledge as a boy. Why can't they see that girls may not be as good as guys technically but they have other good points too? I believe that we are more creative than boys and there should be a good balance between both genders in the industry. There are definitely scenarios where girls are more outstanding than boys in the IT industry.
And side note to female friends who are faced with such an interviewer. Never sit down and take their insults. It was a humiliating interview for me and i sat meekly in my seat, accepted their insults and said thank you to them. The next time, i will just stand up, smile and tell them: "Thank you for your time, but i think there is no need to continue with the interview. You are not the employers i wish to work for." and i shall leave the room. So there.

Life's really tough for a girl in the IT industry.
I've always contemplated on leaving the industry and many colleagues have also advised me to do so. Apart from competing with the men, theres the offshoring trend in IT. Where they can easily replace your headcount with 5 other men in Bangalore/ Mumbai.
And that is why i am writing this post, as a tribute to all the girls, who survived or who once fought together, in the IT industry. We were the cause of our own misery (who told you to choose computer engineering when u were 18 yrs old? :P), and some of us are still causing ourselves misery (who asked u to look for an IT job?)
But no matter what, we are still well deserving of respect, even though we may not be as smart of the geeks (boys) or as quick as the nerds (boys).
To all my wonderful GIRL classmates back in CPE, To all my female colleagues and bosses,
We deserve a Pat on our back.

To all the detractors out there: Shut up and let us do our job.
One day, we'll show you that we can make it in the IT Industry.
(or at least until we change a job and get out! :P)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

** My disclaimer~ I always intended to breastfeed, I do believe that it is best for baby. However I also feel that we need to acknowledge that not all women can breastfeed no matter how hard they try or how much support they receive. These women (like myself) are entitled to not being made to feel guilty about their choice and should expect the support of those around them not condemnation. I am glad that the world has moved forward with anti discrimination laws for breastfeeding mothers, however I too have the right to feed my child and not be judged. I am sharing MY experiences, MY views as a way to help other women out there who may find themselves on this path.**

I know that I mentioned early on that we were bottle feeding. At the time I wasn't able to share the whole story but I thought I would try today. I wanted to start with the blinkie above. When I was updating my blinkies after Bethany's arrival I couldn't find any or many positive bottle/formula feeding ones. I liked the one I found though cause I am a disposable nappy using formula feeding stay at home mamma and proud of it!!!

When I was pregnant I went to met with a Lactation Consultant (LC) because I was concerned there would be problems with breastfeeding. One because I was on medication but secondly no woman in our family has produced milk, My mum, grandma and so on. Never had their milk come in. I was told by the LC that this was impossible that ALL women can breastfeed, they must have not tried hard enough. Since when my mum had me she was a trained midwife and a trained herself LC I find that hard to believe. I took all the information offered however and was prepared to take the attitude that we will try and if it works great but if not we will go to formula and be fine too.

A lot of what happened next follow on from Bethany's birth which you can read about here. While she was in Special Care I tried everything, attaching her, cuddles, sitting on the pump. Nothing happened. I was becoming more and more depressed. She was already getting top ups because she was so jaundice, eventually they had to even tube fed her because she wouldn't take the bottle. After 5 days and nothing not even colostrum I decided to bottle feed. I could feel myself becoming more and more frustrated and disheartened, I hated going to see her in the nursery because I knew it meant I would have to sit on the pump for 20-40mins and have nothing happen. It was awful to sit in the expressing rooms and watch the other mums get bottles full and me nothing. Once I made the choice after talking and crying about it with mum I went to ask a midwife on the ward what I needed my mum to bring in. Gee just remembering this is breaking my heart! She looked at me and said why didn't I organise it all earlier, I explained that I had planned to breastfeed but it hadn't worked, she then responded, that I was "that woman" who had no milk...Great I was a talking point. I burst in to tears there and then. The midwife and LC came to my room to tell me what I needed and the like, the LC went on about how I should keep sitting on the pump each feed to see if we could get something, I had been sitting on the pump for 20-30mins every 3 hrs for days and NOTHING!! At this point I lost it again, they were just so unsupportive, the whole attitude was "well do this if you must but if you worked harder you could do it." How much harder could I have worked??

Even now nearly 8 weeks later there are places I won't feed Bethany because of the looks and whispered comments I get from other mums (baby rooms at shopping centres mostly) The other day I was even confronted by a woman as I sat and feed. She came up to me and said I should be ashamed of myself. I responded with "I beg your pardon" She went on to say that didn't I know that babies should be breastfed and if I wasn't going to take care of my baby properly I shouldn't have had her. I needed to stop being lazy, only lazy mum's use bottles. I was speechless. Thankfully a gentleman nearby overheard and told her to move on and stayed with me till his wife came back and they both got me a cool drink and helped me calm down. I was in shock!

I know many of you reading are breastfeeding and even some are long term feeding, that is fantastic and in many ways I envy you! But I have got to a place where I realise I am not less of a mother for bottle feeding my daughter. We bond as we feed, I talk and sing to her and hold her close, we have lots of cuddles. Yes I feel in someways I missed out but I am making the very best of what I have. I am not asking you to change the world or your view with sharing my story but maybe next time you see a mum bottle feeding smile and encourage her. Yes she may have made that choice all along and thats fine but she also might be like me who had the choice taken by circumstance and that gesture might just make her day!

reseller hosting reviews,Comic Movie Wrap-up, Part Two

Some people may prefer to post every day. But I find that the "start a topic, then abandon it for a month" strategy provides much more suspense. That being said, here's the long-unawaited conclusion to my too-late-to-be-of-any-use review of this summer's comic book movies.

I saw Hellboy II: The Golden Army while I was at Comic-Con in San Diego. You'd think that would be the perfect environment in which to watch such a film. Unfortunately, it was at 10pm on Friday night, when every other person at the Con was out partying with their friends, co-workers, or significant others. I was all alone and was getting bored with walking the streets like a homeless person, people-watching, so I decided to take in a show. The theater was almost entirely empty--not what you'd expect for a comic book movie at Comic-Con, and more than a little depressing for Mr. Lonely Guy. But the empty theater actually worked in my favor--they had movable armrests, which I pulled out of the way so I could lay across three seats like I was on my couch at home. Now you know: I have no shame.

So far, this isn't much of a review, but there's really not much to say about Hellboy II. Visually, it was wonderful. Guillermo del Toro is a visual genius--his character design is amazing, and he really knows how to frame a scene. The action in this film was well-choreographed, and his choice to use puppets over CGI in some of the scenes paid off, in that it gave the characters a weight that a lot of comic book movie characters just don't have. But as good as this film looked, the writing was awful.

For some reason, del Toro decided to position much of the film as a romantic comedy. Every scene with Liz and Hellboy came off too cutesy, and the slapstick around Abe Sapien was a little over the top. Normally, I push for more character development, but in this case, I would've liked more of the action and the primary storyline, and less of the BPRD residents. More of Prince Nuada plotting against humanity and less of Hellboy plotting to help more around the house. Also, the ending was way too abrupt. While it looked like they were trying to leave things open for a sequel, I'm not sure I care about the characters enough to stick around.

If you liked the first Hellboy film, you should give this one a try. It wasn't terrible, and was pretty too look at. But I also found it pretty disappointing, perhaps because I loved the first one so much. I thought this would be like the first film on steroids, but it was more like the first film after a few too many Rum and Cokes. Sadly, it was probably the worst comic book movie I saw this summer. Not surprising if you compare it to Dark Knight and Iron Man, but maybe a little surprising once you know I also saw Speed Racer.

Wanted, on the other hand, was in contention for the title of "Best Summer Action Movie," in my opinion. I'd read the comic book years ago, but found it to be fairly unimpressive. And knowing they'd taken the superhero elements out of the film, I thought that would be even more boring than the comic. I had no plans to see it, but started to reconsider once the reviews started pouring in from my friends and coworkers. None of them had anything bad to say about the film. Every one of them recommended I see it. And since Friday wasn't my only bored and lonely night at Comic-Con, I did go see it--the Saturday 10:30pm show, to be exact.

Put simply, my friends were right. This film was good. It's no Godfather, but it was a solid, well-directed, well-acted action film. From the first scene, they establish that the laws of physics are a bit different in this film's world, and that they're taking a slightly tongue-in-cheek approach to the subject of assassination. But if you can suspend your disbelief enough to accept this universe, you're in for a fun ride.

The cast of this film was solid, from top to bottom, but I think it would've worked even better without the big name talent like Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie. The writing and directing were really the stars of the film. It had the workplace humor of an Office Space perfectly balanced with the action of a Die Hard film, and shot in a style that give it some indy texture. It was pretty impressive how it all came together.

Although some people are calling this movie "gun porn" (much like Shoot Em Up and other recent "more bullets than brains" action fare), I think this movie takes a more intelligent and witty approach to the genre and can be enjoyed by people who don't necessarily attend films for the body count. It's definitely a film you should see in high def or at the theater, and you may even be able to find it at the dollar theaters soon. That way, you won't say I owe you money on the off chance you don't agree with my review.

Finally, I wanted to include a movie that's actually based more on a cartoon than a comic book--though there are now comics out based on the series. I saw Speed Racer at a sneak preview screening sponsored by the Asian-American group at my company, which meant it was free and during the workday. I have to admit that may've biased my opinion favorably toward the film. Either way, despite this being a very unpopular opinion, I have to admit I enjoyed the movie.

I've already reviewed the film here, so I won't go into more detail about it. I just wanted to throw it in this list, as I consider it one of the "comic book movies" of the summer, and can't discuss the other movies I saw this year without including it. I can understand how some people were disappointed in Speed Racer, but I think this film will have a good run on DVD. It may not have made its money back at the box office, but it will do well once in-store purchases and rentals are factored in. And I don't think history will remember it as badly as some other modernizations, like Godzilla or The Flintstones. If you can catch it at the dollar theater, you should do so. And that's the last I'll say about that.

I haven't really planned my winter movie viewing, yet. Once I saw the extra Watchmen footage at Comic-Con, I already started looking forward to 2009. That's my favorite book/series, and the footage makes me think it will soon become my favorite feature film. I'm more amped about this movie than I've ever been--this may be what Star Wars fanboys felt about The Phantom Menace. Anyway, if you have some winter/fall recommendations, let me know. Besides The Spirit and maybe Land of the Lost and The Wolfman, I'm not even that aware of what geek-oriented films will be in the market at that time.

goldmine, how we all enjoy letting loose with a little la-da-dum-dum-dum

Here are the things that have taken up my time recently.

Phantom of the Opera!!!!!!!! I went into it expecting it to be brilliant. I didn't expect it to blow my mind. Christine was flawless. She had a beautiful voice and the spirit that was missing from the film. John Mills actually made me like Raoul's character. He was much more of a man than Patrick Wilson's movie interpretation. And the Phantom absolutely stunned me. Definitely the most amazing tenor I've heard in person. During the curtain call, when all the characters took their bows, many people stood up. When the Phantom came out, the entire house stood up. I really cannot think of anything that I didn't like or that I would have changed. I've heard some people say that they preferred the voices of the characters in the movie version, and to tell you the truth, that seriously offends me. It is impossible to compare Greg Mills' smooth tenor voice to Gerard Butler's rough rock-and-roll voice. These people were classically trained for the express purpose of being onstage someday. The film actors thought it would be cool to be in a movie musical, and all they'd have to do is sing from their nose into a machine that would make them sound halfway decent. I guess those people just don't appreciate the art and talent that is musical theatre like I do. :)

All of us who went:
Hannah, Rachel, India, me, Brian, Kristen, and Beth

My girl Rachel :)

I am officially Psaltina. Oh, what fun we will have.... ;) And if only I wasn't going to be out of town for 1 1/2 weeks this summer: the Woodlawn Theatre is doing The Wizard of Oz! Only the love of my life!

What the world needs most is more male pianists with amazing voices. People like Ben Folds and Harry Connick, Jr. Most definitely.

Several nights ago I introduced several of my friends to the wondrous joy that comes from watching Murder By Death. Have you seen it? You probably haven't. So you should.

Easter was great. All the kids sang the Alleluia Chorus we taught them for Prelude. It was so pretty. And of course, it being Easter, Dad wanted us to take pictures :)

Nathan and I have compiled a list of the greatest performances by an actor ever. While we differ on several, this is our joint list in no particular order (in case you couldn't tell, I love to make lists):
Phillip Seymour Hoffman - Capote
Anthony Hopkins - The Silence of the Lambs
Tom Cruise - The Last Samurai
Sean Penn - I Am Sam
Daniel Day-Lewis - There Will Be Blood
Edward Norton - The Illusionist
Adrien Brody - The Pianist
Denzel Washington - Training Day

The Witch's Trinity by Erika Mailman

No one escapes suspicion when a famine afflicts a medieval German village. In searingly simple prose, Mailman probes the human psyche, peeling back the layers of the basest human instincts to expose the dangerous frailties of the human soul.

I have already read this book. Will write a review soon.

A Song in Stone by Walter H. Hunt

This novel begins with the premise that Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland is part of an unfinished larger church - and that it contains a mystery, one clue of which is found in the intricate stonework of the chapel. It goes from there to the Middle Ages, taking Ian Graham, currently-unemployed television personality, with it, literally, as he tries to learn the chapel's secret before it is too late to return to his own time, his own life.

And only a few minutes back, one of my friends gifted me the following books, all romances. She insists that I read those. If anyone knows anything about any of these authors, do let me know. I only know Janet Daily. I think a few of the titles are corny! Believe me, I have read lots of Mills & Boons but with such titles? I don't know if I will read those. Maybe I should. Wot say?

After reading Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay, I searched out her reading recommendations and here are a few books that I think are must reads. In order to know history, we have to read the ugly part of it too. Shamefully, before reading Sarah's Key, I was not aware of the role of French police in the Holocaust.

Remember.
Never forget.

Not the Germans Alone by Isaac Levendel

On June 5th, 1944, the eve of D-day, Isaac Levendel's mother left the farm in southern France, where she and her son had gone to escape the Nazis, to make a brief trip home to pick up the last of their belongings. She never returned. For more than 40 years, Levendel was tormented by her disappearance. Finally, in 1990, he began to look for answers. He found shocking evidence of widespread French collaboration and government collusion with the Nazis. This is Levendel's story, a powerful exploration of a shameful chapter in history

French Children of the Holocaust by Serge Klasrfeld

Serge Klarsfeld, a tireless Nazi hunter who located Klaus Barbie, among others, and the author of 20 books on the Holocaust, has compiled an astonishing, haunting document which restores to us the memory of 2500 children deported by the Vichy government to the German death camps. French Children of the Holocaust: A Memorial has a b&w picture of each child, with a short paragraph detailing his or her place of birth, parentage and manner of deportation. By forcing us to confront each victim individually, Klarsfeld not only allows readers a vital historical connection to them but has shown how any attempt to explain their plight must fail.

Bad Faith by Carmen Callil

In the 1960s, Carmen Callil visited a psychiatrist called Anne Darquier; they forged a close bond, tragically broken when Anne committed suicide. Years later, by chance, Carmen discovered that Anne's father was the French war criminal, Louis Darquier de Pellepoix.

Louis Darquier was a French Nazi a collaborator and a con man - appropriating the aristocratic 'de Pellepoix' and styling himself 'Baron'. He married a failed Australian actress, Myrtle Jones, and Anne, their only child, was abandoned to a nurse at birth. She was raised, in poverty, in Oxfordshire.

Their extraordinary story - and that of Louis Darquier's ascent to power before and during the Second World War is the keyhole into a revelatory account of the terrible acts of the Vichy government during the war years. Louis Darquier - always broke, always desperate for attention, social cachet, women and drink - became the longest serving Commissioner for Jewish Affairs in the Vichy government. Most of the over seventy thousand French Jews who died in Auschwitz were sent to death during his tenure. He was never brought to justice.

sap,The SAP also rises

And I play the sap in real life!

I am totally in sympathy with the goals of our Student Assistance Program. No, really I am. At least, that is, with its stated goals. I'm less than enthusiastic how some of those goals get interpreted in practice.

In brief, SAP intends to help each student succeed in his or her academic endeavors. Teachers and counselors work together to provide compensating accommodation for students with learning or physical disabilities. That may mean providing Braille translation of class texts for blind students, sign-language interpreters for the deaf, quiet testing rooms for those with attention deficits, and extra time for those afflicted with dyslexia or dyscalculia.

Of course, some of us harbor dark suspicions that there exist students who believe that SAP is just a good way to get time-and-a-half on your exams. Just tell the SAP counselors a sad story and you're on your way. Professors compare notes and marvel that no one has ever had a student come back from a SAP appointment to report, “No, they said I'm perfectly okay. I'm supposed to take exams with my classmates and have the same amount of time that they do.”

Despite these concerns, most of the time I'm perfectly happy to cooperate in assuaging the fears of the mathematically anxious and accommodating the needs of the learning disabled. I admit, though, to resenting the occasional student who regards his or her acceptance into SAP's intervention program as carte blanche to indulge petty whims or disrupt the entire fabric of a course.

One notable example occurred several years ago in a prealgebra student, when a chronically absent student enrolled in SAP and then began to tell me when to schedule my exams. The exams were already set in the syllabus. She needed to sign up for a self-paced class if she wanted that kind of accommodation. I gently informed her that the announced exam dates would be the exam dates unless I announced otherwise (which I was decidedly not doing). She pouted, none too prettily, and then changed the topic to all of the in-class work she had missed by her absences. She wanted to make up work that she had missed weeks earlier. I informed her that the window for make-ups had long expired on the material from earlier chapters. When it turned out she couldn't pass any exams even with extra time, she dropped the class. I'm sure it was as much a relief to her as to me.

Most of my SAP students are a lot more reasonable. That's why I was so surprised one recent semester when I received a peremptory little message from the SAP coordinator's office.
Your arithmetic students are scheduled to take their finals starting tomorrow, Friday, and we have no finals. Please send us their tests. Thank you.
I wrote back as nicely as I could:
We may have a problem. Our arithmetic final exam is not until Tuesday next week. I did not tell anyone that the final exam would be available before that day.
They remained unmollified:
Because we have a shortage of rooms we had to book earlier. Only one student is scheduled to take that test here tomorrow. Could you please accommodate that student?
They mentioned the name of the student in question. It made no sense that she would have jumped the gun by a full four days. I figured that SAP had screwed up. I tried explaining things to them:
This is not a straightforward matter of accommodation. Our last class meeting was today. Finals are next week. The final exam for our class does not exist. It will be written over this weekend. SAP should not be booking students for final exams this far in advance of the actual final exam date (Tuesday) without clearing it first with the instructor. What we have here is a failure to communicate. I did not tell my students or SAP that the final exam would be available this early. I understand that your facilities get very crowded during finals week, but certain basic steps to coordinate with the instructor were skipped, and that's why we're in a bind today.
I then demonstrated my magnanimity. The student in question was a reasonable person who had never given me any trouble. SAP had misled her by booking her so early. It was not her fault.
Since Ms. Doe is a responsible student and I am sure that she did not make this mistake deliberately, there is one possible remedy that I can offer. The attached file is a pdf of my final exam from an arithmetic class I taught last year. Since I have not made copies of this available to my current class, Ms. Doe will not have seen it and the old final exam is a reasonably close match to the class I taught this semester. I will allow her to take this final exam in lieu of the one that has yet to be written. Otherwise, she will need to make arrangements with SAP to take her class final on Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday next week, whenever possible.
Feeling just a bit smug at my generosity after having chewed out the SAP office for trying to give me the bum's rush, I moved the mouse pointer to the Send button, ready to dispatch my grand pronunciamento. But I paused. For courtesy's sake, it would only be fair to let Ms. Doe ponder the alternative I was offering, rather than simply letting SAP surprise her with it on the morrow. I quickly typed her e-mail address in the CC window and clicked Send.

The deed was done. A few seconds later, I had a dazzlingly bright flash of insight.

I had sent SAP the final exam. And I had sent my student the final exam.

Oh, damn.

The initial sensation of horror passed quickly enough. It was late in the evening. She probably wouldn't see her copy of the message till morning, while getting ready to go to school for her premature final exam. She wouldn't have time to take advantage of her teacher's stupidity. It was not a disaster. Probably.

In fact, our travails were all for naught. SAP had already e-mailed Ms. Doe a reminder to show up for her exam and she recognized the problem. She had not asked for Friday. She had asked for a block of time on Tuesday, our actual exam date. SAP had booked her on the wrong day. She went in on Friday and had them fix the schedule, restoring the Tuesday appointment. Ms. Doe took the exam on the prescribed day and passed with flying colors. I was doubtful that her SAP accommodation was even necessary.

Her teacher, however, the absent-minded professor: He might want to look into getting some SAP assistance.
