Officer1: All right! This is
not the regular police, this is the State Police. Your training
will illustrate the difference. State Police! Step forward! State

1. Plainclothes
指的是便衣（不穿制服的）警察。"便衣"除了plainclothes，还可以用undercover
来形容，例如：undercover policeman（便衣警察），undercover FBI
agent（联邦调查局密探），undercover security guard （便衣保安）等等。
警察正式的名称是 police
(集合名词，只能当复数用，不能指个人)，或是 policeman (指个人)。而警官则是 police
officer。就像在中文里我们常常戏称警察为"条子"一样，在美国老美也戏称警察是 cop。这个用法由来是以前警察都穿那种有铜扣
(copper) 的大衣，所以就被昵称为 copper。后来日子久了就变成了 cop。
这个词原来是有一点歧视的味道，不过时间久了，连警察们自己都互称是 cop，所以就变成一个中性的字眼了。
2. Catch up
with
这里的catch up with
可不是"逮捕、处罚"的意思，而是"赶上"，在这个片段可以理解为"过去找你们"。我们来看个例子：You
run so fast it's hard to catch up with you.
The auditors finally caught up
with the embezzler.

entangled with: caught up in the excitement of the
crowd.
3. School's out.
通常“School's out.”是表示“school
break 假期”，如暑假、寒假等等，这里的意思则是"学业结束了"，但是这个用法并不常见。这里 Costello
想说的意思是“学业结束了，没什么理由不去庆祝一下”。

1. Convict someone
(of...)
"某人被判有罪"的意思，例如：The jury
convicted the defendant of manslaughter.
这个片语还可以表示"显示有过错，谴责"，例如：His
remarks convicted him of a lack of sensitivity.
2. Make sense
这里的意思是"To be practical, wise or
advisable"，例如：It makes sense to go now.
3. Setup
这里的setup是个俚语，意思是"骗局"。This is no
后面加名词常用来表示"这不是……"，例如：This is no love. 这不是爱情。
4. The whole nine yards
这个片语的意思是"Everything that is
relevant; the whole thing"，例如：He decided to take everything to
college--his books, his stereo, his computer, his skis, the whole
nine yards. 这里指的是"所有和犯罪、判刑、缓刑、释放"有关的事情。
此外，它还可以表示"in all ways; in every
respect; all the way"，例如：If you want to run for mayor, I'll be with
you the whole nine yards.

Ellerby: Patriot act! Patriot

guy, Billy Costigan. Time is 10: 46.
Costello: All right, turn off
your cell phones. Fitzy's got the chicken. Check your
weapons.
Cop2: We have ablind
spot.
Ellerby: Why do we have a blind
spot?
Cop2:We had two hour's notice.
Two hours, what the fuck do you think this is, Nasa?
Ellerby: Nevercrossed my mind.
Have you got a camera in the back?

1. Call the game
Call the game 可以表示"to referee
the game or to call the game off
为比赛做裁判或是中止比赛"，做后一个意思讲的时候常用于这样的情况：在比赛中，由于天气等原因不得不中止比赛，等天气好转后再继续比赛或是择日再赛。
在这个电影片段中，Queenan
的意思有点是让Colin来"主持整个进程"，在后面我们会看到当监视器的画面显示出Costello一伙时，Colin
主持人性质的发言。
2. Id
这里的id 可不是指 ID card，而是
identify（辨别身分）的意思。
Id 作动词用时的时态和形态变化有：ID'd or IDed
or ID'ed, ID'ing or ID·ing。
3. Blind spot
这里指"A part of an area that
cannot be directly observed under existing
circumstances盲区"。
Blind spot 还可以指"Subject about
which one is ignorant or biased某人一无所知或是抱有偏见的事物"，例如：The boss has a
blind spot about Henry; he wouldn't fire him for
anything.
